Last week I attended a parliamentary reception representing the Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare on the dog meat industry in Asia. The event was hosted by Dame Judy Dench and Peter Egan alongside some excellent charities such as Soi Dogs and Animals Asia who are doing brilliant educational and rescue work in countries like Vietnam, Indonesia, China and Laos. Anyway it was a good event and because of Dame Judy Dench, a lot of prominent politicians turned up and stated they would support efforts to stop this barbaric practice. Peter Egan is a fantastic animal hero who does a lot of work on this issue and because he has such a beautifully trained voice when he speaks about it we all listen.

There is a small window at the moment because Vietnam are reviewing their animal welfare law and so we are asking the Foreign Office here to put pressure on them to stop this trade. I would advise anyone who cares to write to the FCO asking them to do this.

The reason I have mentioned this amongst many of the other very good events I attend on animal welfare is because of the short video they showed featuring Dame Judy, peter Egan, Ricky Gervais and a number of Downton Abbey actors which was so well produced and so powerful that it should be seen by everyone. Here it is:
